You’ve worked with some of the biggest names in beauty — from CHANEL to Mecca as well as co-founding LUI Body, what has that taught you about the meaning of luxury?
I think the meaning of luxury has pivoted from being something exclusive and aspirational to being something that is accessible and anchored in everyday rituals. Luxury to me is about elevating small moments through tactile touchpoints and assigning a sense of ceremony to things we might usually take for granted, whether it’s using a beautiful facial oil and taking a moment to massage it into the skin, mindfully enjoying a coffee in the sunshine and noticing the warmth of the cup in your hands, or creating a Sunday wind-down routine that involves preparing yourself a nourishing meal and hopping into fresh sheets.
To me, those little practices that tend to self are much more luxurious than owning the latest designer bag.
As a certified yoga teacher, what role does movement or breathwork play in your day-to-day?
Movement and breath play a huge role in my day-to-day life. The asana (the physical postures of the yoga practice) are an important component, but the real ‘work’ of yoga begins off the mat and out in the world. If we practice yoga enough, we can begin to truly live our yoga practice and embody those values in all we do. The breath is a powerful tool that we all have at our disposal, it can become a thread between body and mind, anchoring us in the present. I often say a quote when I’m teaching yoga, which is “if you’re ever at a crossroads or faced with a decision, know that there are always three guides within you at all times: your intuition, your nervous system, and your breath.”
When we become more in-tune with our own physicality we can live a life that feels lighter, easier and more in sync.
