The Perfect Marriage Proposal
The Perfect Marriage Proposal
Our Kate & Kole founders have collated ten top tips to help you plan the perfect proposal:
1. Have a Heart-to-Heart with Your Partner
Before you dive into the details of your proposal, it's important to have an open and honest discussion with your partner about your future together. Make sure you're both on the same page about marriage and your long-term life goals.
2. Seek Parental Blessings (if appropriate)
While it may seem traditional, asking for your partner's parents' blessing can be a meaningful gesture. It shows respect for their family and can make the moment even more special.
3. Choose or Design the Perfect Ring
When it comes to the ring, personalisation is key. Pay attention to your partner's style and preferences — such as the metal type of their existing jewellery, whether they maintain an understated classic or dramatic statement style, and finger size if possible! If you're not sure, discreetly gather some hints or even involve a close friend or family member for guidance.
4. Location, Location, Location
Think about places that hold special meaning for both of you. Whether it's the town or city you first met, a favourite beach, or a scenic overlook — choosing a meaningful location can add an extra layer of sentiment to your proposal.
5. Consider Hiring an Event Company
If you want to take your proposal plans to the next level, consider enlisting the help of a professional event planning company. They can help you with everything from location scouting, to coordinating special touches such as flowers or bubbles that will make your proposal moment unforgettable.
6. Craft a Heartfelt Proposal Speech
Take some time to write down your thoughts and feelings. Your proposal speech doesn't need to be elaborate or rehearsed, but it should come from the heart. Share why you love your partner and why you want to spend the rest of your life with them.
It's a good idea to get your partner to organise a friend to take them to discreetly get their nails done. We know your partner is going to want to take beautiful photos as soon as you pop the questions.
7. Plan a Celebration
After the big moment, consider planning a celebration with family and friends. Whether it's an intimate dinner or a larger gathering, sharing the joy with loved ones can make the occasion even more memorable.
8. Keep the Ring Safe
Once you receive the ring, make sure to keep it safe and secure until the big day. Consider storing it somewhere completely out of mind from your partner, or entrusting it to a close friend or family member for safekeeping. When it comes time to propose, storing the ring safely inside a box or zipped pocket is key!
9. Hire a Photographer
Capture the magic of the moment by hiring a professional photographer to discreetly document your proposal. You'll cherish these photos for years to come and can share them with friends and family who couldn't be there in person.
10. Try to be Flexible
Despite your best thought out plans, things may not always go exactly to schedule. Stay flexible and be prepared to adapt if unexpected challenges arise. At the end of the day, it's the thought and effort you put into the proposal that truly matters.
The most important element of a proposal is showing your love and commitment to your partner in a way that feels authentic to your relationship. So take a deep breath, trust your instincts, and get ready to create a moment that you'll both treasure forever.
Happy proposing!

Having a cold bottle of champagne in the fridge is a non-negotiable. An easy one to forget, but so nice to be able to celebrate together after.
