Diamonds may be forever, but just like any good thing, they come along with their own set of questions and concerns. In recent years, awareness about diamond mining has grown. And when you’re in the process of shopping for a special jewellery piece, it can start to feel very overwhelming to find something perfect while also ensuring that your purchase won’t contribute to greater damage in the world.
While there are ways to shop more sustainably and ethically while searching for diamonds, the reality is that conflict-free diamonds can hard to come by and even harder to verify. Thanks to new technologies though, ensuring diamonds are conflict-free is now a lot easier than ever before.
And when you care about the ways you’re contributing to bigger issues, the answer seems obvious.
We care. A lot. And we know our customers do too. For that reason, we have ve chosen to use lab grown diamonds in all of our diamond jewellery pieces. Doing so, way we can be 100% certain that they are conflict free and environmentally conscious, all while being indistinguishable from mined diamonds.
By opting for lab-grown diamonds, we are able to ensure that there is no uncertainty or scepticism about the origins of your jewellery. It allows us to rest easy about the materials we’re using, and it allows our customers to pour their full love into these special pieces without any doubts that might come up surrounding mining practices.
What does “lab grown diamond” mean?
When we say “lab grown diamond”, it might sound cool. But what does it actually mean?
It sounds simple in theory, but the reality is that it’s quite complex to recreate the gem as it occurs in nature.
To generate the process, lab grown diamonds are grown from a specialised carbon plate known as a seed. This seed is then placed inside a low-pressure microwave chamber.
Hydrogen and methane gases are then introduced, and a microwave generator pumps energy in, igniting a glowing plasma ball.
Carbon molecules rain on the seed, layering on top of it and fast-tracking the natural crystallization process. The entire process is then completed within six to ten weeks.
Afterwards, the diamond is cut and polished by a master diamond cutter in the same process that mined diamonds undergo.
Why Lab Grown Diamonds?
There are so many reasons to choose lab grown diamonds!
In addition to being conflict-free, there are many other wonderful aspects to choosing this modern alternative:
- The look: Who doesn’t love the look of diamonds? Lab grown diamonds look exactly like real diamonds, brilliant and bright, they’re the perfect centrepiece for any special jewellery or engagement ring.
- They are real: We get our lab grown diamonds from Biron, one of Australia’s finest suppliers with over 50+ years of experience. The highest quality, they are chemically and physically identical to mined diamonds making them 100% the real deal.
- The Cost: Lab grown diamonds can be cheaper than their comparative mined alternatives. Because of the reduced transport and mining costs, it is not uncommon for a lab-grown diamond to cost less than a mined one of similar quality and size. It’s not uncommon for white lab-grown diamonds to cost up to 50% less than a mined one typically might.
- More purity: because lab grown diamonds are created in a controlled environment, this means they are less likely to contain dirt or debris and are therefore purer than traditionally mined ones. More shine and less grit, what more could you want?
Lab Grown Diamonds Vs Natural
As far as the actual diamond is concerned, there is virtually no difference between natural diamonds and lab cut diamonds. Physically and chemically they are identical, and the process in which they are polished and cut is the same too.
However, the processes which create the diamonds are where things very. While natural diamonds are found naturally and obtained through mining, lab grown diamonds are created by a scientific process that replicates the natural phenomena resulting in the stone.
One major factor to weigh when considering lab grown diamonds vs natural is the ethical component. Most people are aware that purchasing diamonds can inadvertently contribute to conflict worldwide. Even when you choose “conflict free” diamonds which are mined, it can be extremely difficult to verify whether the claim is true or not.
In addition to the human cost, mining has a huge impact on the environment. While it is the traditional way diamonds have been acquired in the past, mining is definitely not the best way. And now, we have something even better. Thanks to technology, we can now grow diamonds without contributing to the negative impacts — so our perspective is, why not?

Are lab grown diamonds real diamonds
Yes! Lab grown diamonds are just as real as they get. Physically and chemically identical to mined diamonds, there is nothing that makes lab grown diamonds fake or inauthentic in any way.
All of the lab-grown diamonds that we use in our designs are certified by the Australian Diamond Grading Laboratory, so you can rest assured that you’re getting a true diamond, despite being lab grown.
Just like mined diamonds, they won’t colour over time or damage with heat. You can’t scratch a diamond except with a diamond, and likewise, the same goes for our lab grown options.
