“I truly had no idea it was coming. I’d been told for so long that I wasn’t getting a ring on this trip, so an engagement was the last thing I was expecting.

We had planned to hike the 20.2km Tongariro Alpine Crossing, but with heavy snowfall the track had been closed all week leading up to it. Somehow, we got so lucky. It was like someone above was looking out for us because on the exact day we had booked was the first day it reopened. We hiked the Tongariro Crossing with snow covering the volcanoes and mountains, under the most perfect bluebird sunny sky. It already felt like such a magical day.

When we reached the peak overlooking the incredible Emerald Lakes and the bright blue volcanic pools, we stopped to take a photo together. He turned to me, said “Cass,” and pulled the most beautiful ring box from his pocket and got down on one knee.

Then he asked, “Will you marry me?” While we stood on what felt like the top of the world surrounded by our loved ones. On the very same day my grandparents were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

I was in complete shock. I honestly couldn’t process how perfect the moment was and how long I had been dreaming of this and then to finally be in it! Ahhh! And then I looked down and saw the ring… and somehow I was even more shocked. It was the most beautiful piece of jewellery I had ever seen.

All I could think was, oh my God… I get to marry my best friend. And out of all the beautiful places around the world we have been to this was the most incredible perfect place in the world to ask me the easiest question I’ve ever answered.

This ring is so much more than just a ring, it is the most beautiful piece I have ever owned, hand picked by my fiancé and I feel so grateful that I get to wear it every single day for the rest of my life. It still doesn’t feel real.
